At Abi’s Place, Therapy Kids Club offers occupational therapy. The occupational therapists work with children of all levels and functional abilities to increase their independence in areas that are important to them and their families. By working as a team with the child, family members, and therapists they are able to improve skills needed for daily living and promoting all areas of development.
While promoting development the therapists consider the child’s sensory needs. The consideration of individual sensory needs means the therapists are looking to see if the child has the ability to process their environment appropriately. By understanding that each child’s sensory needs vary, the therapist is able to choose appropriate activities to provide each child with the just right challenge. Sensory impairments can limit a child’s ability to play with peers, learn, pay attention, eat, participate in family functions, communicate, as well as interfering with normal development.
